Il decoupage
Ho appreso la decorazione
con il decoupage circa 20 anni fa, quando ancora non era tornato di moda. Per
questo motivo, per realizzarla, utilizzo esclusivamente prodotti delle belle
arti o di falegnameria poiché all’epoca non c'erano ancora in commercio
prodotti specifici per questa tecnica decorativa.
Il procedimento che seguo è
lungo e laborioso in quanto l’obiettivo non è quello di produrre tanti oggetti
in poco tempo, ma piuttosto è quello di creare pezzi unici, belli e resistenti,
con una finitura e una cura dei particolari che ne fanno dei veri complementi d'arredo.
Ad esempio il lavoro di ceratura, ripetuto con molti passaggi
alternati con l’uso della carta abrasiva, permette di annullare quasi
completamente lo spessore della carta e al tempo stesso conferisce alla
superficie dell’oggetto un aspetto
simile alla trama della tela di una quadro. Il decoupage può essere
realizzato su molti tipi di materiali, io lo eseguo esclusivamente su oggetti
di legno o di metallo.
Le fasi di una decorazione
a decoupage, secondo il mio metodo di lavoro, sono le seguenti:
- Pulitura ed eventuale stuccatura/riparazione dell’oggetto;
- Preparazione della base e stesura del fondo (l’antiruggine per il metallo oppure l’impregnante per il legno) ;
- Scelta del soggetto per la decorazione, preparazione e prova del posizionamento dei ritagli;
- Preparazione e stesura del fondo pittorico;
- Disposizione e incollaggio dei ritagli;
- Stesura della prima mano di cera;
- Ritocco a pennello dei particolari, dei punti luce e delle ombre per dare profondità alla decorazione;
- Successive mani di cera alternate con il carteggio (da 20 a 30 passate);
- Lavaggio con carta abrasiva insaponata;
- Ceratura finale;
- Eventuale sfumatura dei bordi e dei particolari in rilievo
Come si può facilmente
intuire da questi passaggi, ciascun oggetto è unico per colore e decorazione
anche se i particolari dei decori applicati possono essere gli stessi.
La decorazione in stile
country o in stile shabby chic può essere eseguita con diverse tecniche scelte
in base al risultato che si vuole ottenere e alle caratteristiche dell’oggetto.
Personalmente ho una preferenza per il legno decapato, ossia quel tipo di
finitura che lascia intravedere la venatura del legno.
L'obiettivo finale è comunque quello di lasciare all’oggetto la sua aria vissuta e al tempo stesso esaltarne le caratteristiche e le finiture.
Un oggetto decorato in stile shabby o country ha un colore non omogeneo. Questo effetto si ottiene anche utilizzando colori differenti nella stesura della pittura, generalmente si usa come base un colore più scuro che poi affiora dalla carteggiatura del colore steso in superficie.

Lo stile shabby è
caratterizzato dall’utilizzo di tinte chiarissime, prevalentemente bianco e
avorio mentre lo stile country prevede anche l’utilizzo di colori più vivaci.

In giro per mercatini e
botteghe di cose vecchie capita di recuperare anche oggetti che necessitano
solo di piccole riparazioni ma non hanno bisogno di essere decorati. Per questo dedico una parte di questo laboratorio anche a loro. Sono oggetti che si inseriscono bene in un ambiente arredato in stile country o shabby ma sono perfetti anche in un arredo moderno per il piacevole effetto che creano per il contrasto di stile.

Decoupage can be achieved

The phases of decorative
decoupage, according to my way of working, are:
- Cleaning and eventual repair
- Preparation of the base and the drafting of the fund (or anti-corrosion agents for the metal impregnation for wood);
- Choice of subject for decoration, preparation and placement test cut-outs;
- Preparation and drafting of background painting;
- Arrange and glue the clippings;
- Applying the first coat of wax;
- Retouch brush for details, points of light and shadows to give depth to the decor;
- Subsequent coats of wax alternate with the correspondence (20 to 30 passes);
- Sandpaper soapy;
- Waxing final;
- Any softness of the edges and details in relief.
As can be easily understood
from these passages, each object is unique exemplar for decoration and the
color even if the details of the decorations applied may be the same.
Shabby and country style
The decoration in country
style or shabby chic style can be performed with different techniques chosen
based on the result you want to achieve and the characteristics of the object.
I personally have a preference for pickled wood , the kind of finish that
reveals the grain of the wood.
The objective you want to
achieve, however, is to give the object looked ancient but at the same time it
enhances the features and finishes. A pickled object must have a color that is
not homogeneous, and this effect is also achieved by using different colors in
the drafting of painting, usually as a base a darker color which then emerges
from the color spread on the surface.
The end result is to have a
pleasant aesthetic effect for the contrast between the wear and tear of the
object and its elegance.
The style is characterized by the use of clear colors, mostly white and ivory while the country style includes the use of more vibrant colors.

Around the flea markets and shops of old things happen to also retrieve objects that require only minor repairs but don't need to be decorated. For this reason I dedicate a part of this laboratory to them. They are objects that are well integrated in an environment decorated in country style or shabby but they are also perfect in rooms with a modern decor for the nice effect, that create with the contrast of style.
